Afterall, we all know this to be flax don't we?! This plant that we call 'flax' in NZ is actually the Phormium tenax and Phormium colensoi and both are wholly separate from the plant we grow and get flax seeds from. The flax seeds (also know as linseed) that we harvest to create flax seed oil and the flax seeds that you eat or add to baking come from the plant Linum usitatissimum
